Dressing up as a bespectacled heroine

This week we’re celebrating Carnival over here. It always makes me really confused because I never know which day is the big celebration, which I am supposed to eat that smoked sardine stuff and when does it all end. What I do know is that you can already find Bunyols de Quaresma in bakeries! They’re one of my favourite pastries ever, so simple yet so good.
It’s been ages since I last dressed up for the carnival since I don’t really have any nice party to attend and neither David nor my friends like to dress up anyway. However that doesn’t stop me from thinking “oh I should dress up like this or like that” and this year I considered my hair situation and the fact that I don’t seem to take off my vintage frames anymore, I decided that my top option would be either Enid Coleslaw from Ghost World or Velma DInkley from Scooby Doo. I even made up some inspiration boards that are more outfit than costume since they include clothes from brands like Burberry, A.P.C. and Irregular Choice but here they are.

Enid Coleslaw is the ultimate heroine. I love her! I admit I liked the film better than the original comic (although I love Mr Clowes) for a very obvious reason: Steve Buscemi as Seymour! She’s got some really cool style and I know she’s supposed to wear furry bags but I’m sure she’d be a Wes Anderson fan in real life so I added the Life Aquatic tote that I actually want to buy myself.

Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! was one of my favourite shows growing up and in fact I still watch it when I get back home from work early enough. I love that the structure is the same in every episode, the character design and the bubblepop music they play in the chase scenes, even Davy Jones from The Monkees appeared in an episode. As a child I wanted to be like Daphne with her lovely pink tights, mod dress and red hair but I’ve always been a Velma type of girl really. One of my goals in life is owning a van painted like the Mistery Machine (or like The Partridge Family bus).

Are you dressing up or celebrating the carnival? It seems I’ll be having a quiet night in with carrot cake and maybe watch Harry Potter.
